Dr. Shelle Raines

Experience & Background

Originally from Vicksburg, Mississippi, Dr. Raines pursued her love for science and problem-solving at Mississippi State University (MSU), where she earned a psychology degree with a minor in biology. Her passion for animals led her to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at MSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. While at MSU, she worked with “Bully” the MSU mascot, as well as many other English bulldogs. This experience led to a love of the “bully” breeds that continues today.

Following her time at MSU, Dr. Raines’ honed her skills in North Carolina, where she gained hands-on experience caring for small animals. Then, the Rocky Mountains started calling for her to move west. In 2001, she and her family moved to Colorado, where she decided to focus on small animal medicine, practicing in Superior, Boulder, and Westminster before finding her home at Vista Animal Hospital in Erie, CO.

Dr. Raines is deeply passionate about ultrasound, treating eye conditions, and complex skin and hair issues. She has a wealth of experience in internal medicine, dental surgery, and caring for older dogs and cats with chronic conditions such as kidney disease and diabetes.

Personal Interests & Hobbies

Outside of work, Dr. Raines is as creative as she is curious. She’s an avid painter, an archery enthusiast, and a dedicated movie buff. For Dr. Raines, animals aren’t just pets—they’re family. At home, she shares her life with her husband, son, and Addison, a Standard Poodle with a personality as big as her heart.
