More about Dr. Bonnie Abbott, Veterinarian

Dr. Abbott grew up in Fort Collins, CO about a mile from the CSU veterinary school. Prior to opening Vista Animal Hospital, she practiced veterinary medicine in Boulder, CO. Dr. Abbott and her husband are raising two boys, along with the family dog Korra, Gryffin the family cat, and two very talkative parakeets, Banana and Spike.

Dr. Abbott has traveled to Africa, where her experiences included safaris adventures and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with her sisters. She’s also an accomplished violist and former member of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Abbott and her family enjoy camping and hiking in Colorado’s beautiful mountains.

Caring for Family Pets is My Passion

I believe I was born to be a veterinarian. At age seven, I toured the veterinary teaching hospital and asked to join their pre-vet club mailing list. They smiled and told me I was too young.

One summer day, I spent hours earning the trust of a lost dog and returned him to his family. I was the only kid on my block to still play with the neighbor’s Golden Retriever after his leg was amputated due to bone cancer. I volunteered at our local humane society and had every pet my parents would allow.

From an early age, I wanted to become a vet, a teacher, a counselor, a scientific researcher, a dolphin trainer, and an artist. During college, I realized that I could become nearly all of these things as a veterinarian. And now every day as a practicing vet, I get to teach about a new diagnosis, counsel and support families making difficult decisions, research to keep up with the latest medical treatments, help new pet parents learn about animal behavior and training, and make keepsake paw prints for new and old patients.

I would like my clients to know that I was meant to become a veterinarian and taking care of people’s pets is my passion in life. Great joy comes from helping families maintain the best relationship possible with their pet.

To me, animals provide great comfort and bring unconditional love into our lives. It’s hard to imagine life without them. That’s why I’m committed to doing all I can to help you keep your pet healthy. So you can enjoy the most from your relationship.

This might mean teaching a family about their pet’s health risks. Or discussing care options. Often it means researching new, alternative treatments for a rare condition. And taking the time to answer all of your questions. No matter what, my team and I are here to offer the best medical care possible.
